synopsis
It is the middle of the Salvadorian War and twelve-year-old boys are being rousted form their classrooms to fight in the government armed forces against peasant rebels of the FMLN. Chava (Carlos Padilla), an eleven-year-old boy who has been left as 'the man of the house' after his father abandons the family, has one more year of innocence left before he too will be conscripted to fight for the government. Based on the true story of screenwriter Oscar Torres' embattled childhood, Luis Mandoki's Innocent Voices is the harrowing tale of survival and how even war cannot diminish a child's indomitable spirit.
